You have determined that you would like to see if you are able to resolve your difference with another party using mediation. The questions below will help you assess whether you are ready to mediate:
- Am I in a frame of mind (nonadversarial) that supports the mediation process?
- Am I willing to be open and respectful during the mediation?
- Have I consulted a lawyer about my legal rights and responsibilities?
- Have I had my questions about mediation answered?
- Have I identified and prioritized my interests and needs?
- Have I tried to resolve this issue before?
- Am I willing to be reasonable?
- Have I collected and prepared the material that is relevant to the issue? Have I sent this information to the mediator?
If you answered “yes” to 6 of these questions, you are likely ready to mediate.
